If a group of equivalent protons A couple with two (M, X) or more other groups of protons, then
  • the number of the individual lines that are resolved in the spectrum and
  • the pattern of relative intensities of the individual lines
of the multiplet signal from the protons A depends strongly on the ratio between the coupling constants JAM and JAX. Therefore every case requires careful consideration. In this section you will encounter some of the rules that govern these patterns.
